Florence City Schools -- Empowering students to explore, create, challenge, innovate and lead.

In a ceremony on January 31, 2017, the Florence Athletic Program retired the jersey of former Florence Falcon women’s basketball player Whitney Boddie.

Whitney was a Florence High graduate of the school’s first class in 2005, and was a member of the first Lady Falcon team. In 2005, she was awarded the honor of Alabama Miss Basketball.

Upon graduation, Whitney signed a scholarship to play Division I college level ball at Auburn University where, among many other honors, she was named both State Farm and USBWA All-American, and All-SEC First Team (AP and Coaches). After obtaining her degree from Auburn she was drafted by the WBNA professional basketball team, the Sacramento Monarchs, where she played for two years. Whitney then played overseas for seven different teams in nine countries. For 2013-14, she was the MVP of the UAE women’s league in Dubai.

For the ceremony Whitney was accompanied by her father, Otis Boddie, himself a legendary basketball player, and former Auburn coach and now ESPN analyst, Nell Fortner. Whitney was presented a number 44 personalized framed jersey by the Florence Athletic Program.

Congratulations, Whitney. We are proud of you!
